What is EFT or “Tapping”?

EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) is an evidence-based therapeutic technique that blends the ancient science of acupressure with elements of psychology.

It combines the client tapping on acupressure points to modify the stress response in the body, whilst (sometimes, not always) verbalising thoughts and feelings about specific issues they’re experiencing.

It’s been called “acupuncture without the needles”, and it can help with a wide range of issues, from anxiety and physical pain, to cravings and phobias, to emotional blocks, limiting beliefs and trauma.

How does EFT work?

EFT can help “clear” what that might be keeping us stuck.

Whilst tapping on acupressure points sends a signal to the amygdala - the “smoke alarm” of our brains - to calm down, saying words linked to the issue in hand as we tap can “tune us in” to the specifics of that issue.

This can help us make the connections needed to unpick blocks, and at the same time improve several physiological markers of health.

Although EFT is a therapeutic tool and there are therapeutic aspects, it isn’t therapy like counselling or psychotherapy. We will often touch on the past, but we won’t analyse or interpret it. Having “cleared” emotional imprints of past experiences, we will always link back to what’s happening now.

Why Work With an EFT Practitioner?

One of the great things about EFT is that we can use it as a self-help technique whenever we need. So why work with a practitioner?

With EFT it is the tapping that does the work. But the words we use and the way we use them are important too, especially with blocks that are harder to shift or issues where it is harder for us to be objective. Indeed, we may not even realise there is an issue; it might be showing up in another guise.

An EFT Practitioner has trained extensively to help you unpick and clear what might be holding you back. They know the tools of EFT inside out, but more importantly, they are highly intuitive listeners.

When counsellors, psychotherapists and coaches “hold space” for their clients, it can create a unique “field” of possibilities that we don’t tend to experience in any other part of our lives. And this is true during an EFT session, too. Working in this safe space with a skilled practitioner who has your best interests at heart can often make all the difference; helping you make connections, shift stuckness and heal at a depth that may not be immediately accessible on our own.

About me

I trained to become an Accredited EFT Practitioner under one of the founding EFT Masters, Gwyneth Moss, who herself trained under EFT Founder Gary Craig.

If you’ve had a chance to look around the rest of the website, you may have seen that I am also a Performance Coach with a background in acting and film. I bring these skills and experience into my practice to provide an integrative, holistic approach to EFT work.
